Training

Welcome - This page will have all my blogs on training leading upto the event - I know I will have good days and bad days - but its all part of the adventure!

Well since I cannot get out on my bike at the moment, all my training is currently in the gym - I think I must be glued to the cycling machines doing around 80-100kms a week.  Trying to vary the setting with 'Around the world' which involves many hills.

So 28/01/11
Its been a very busy week - work, fitness, work and fitness kind of week.  Which all caught up yesterday - Sleep did I ever - but overall I am pleased with my progress I have noticed a real difference in my fitness.  I pushed the bike upto another level, I came in at 28mins for 15kms. Hill setting at Level 11 - overall pleased but my legs were burning. Day off tomorrow ready for a 40kms bike ride on Sunday.  Can't wait to get my real bike out to play, but my asthma is really playing hell on my training, so I can't run yet or go outside on the bike - another month it should start to warm up enough to go out. I am looking at buying my tri-cross in the next month ready for the start of some real cycling.

So 06/02/11
Again a very busy week attempting to fit fitness around work. I registered for my local Race for Life this week, didn't think I would go back to running as doing the marathon pushed the limits - I am proud of what I achieved, I do wish I could have done it in better time however having never run that far - it was further than I could ever believe.  A few 5kms, 10kms for charity will keep my fitness going.  I will go out running every Tuesday, building that up - I try and go to the gym most days, mainly cycling but attempting to run a few kms after to loosen my legs.  Saturday I did 40kms on the gym bike, 30kms at Level 11 around the world (hills), followed by Level 10 uphill for 10kms. The problem with the gym bikes is that it will only let you set 60mins at a time and the seats are very uncomfortable - not really in the position that a normal road bike would give.  Another month and I can go back out on my real bike.  I would have gone out this weekend - but the wind was too strong, too dangerous. Well until my next entry...

14/02/11 - The training hasn't stopped just because I don't blog - just isn't enough time in the day to do everything.  But its been cycling, work, cycling work, swim ..... etc - try to cycle every day if possible - the weather is just turning, spring flowers are upon us - at last.  Lighter evening means that I can cycle again after work.... well some evening depends on work.  However the weekends will be free again - managed to find a suitable bike at a good prices which I hope to get in a month or so.  Yesterday was a good fitness day - went to the gym, managed 50kms on the bike which was outstanding - it felt good except the seat which was getting uncomfortable around 35kms - but still had my padded shorts on. Finished off with a nice gentle 3km run. Well until next week - off to work..........

Update - Cycling rest today - focus on some running instead- did about 5kms today which was a nice break -loosen the legs - Opt in for a race for life with a small team of girls, dressing in pink  for all those we have lost etc.

15/02/11 - Busy day so resting legs/body today - remember rest is just important as training especially when your not as young as your mind might be thinking you are....... got my scales today as well - so preparing to lose another stone to become effective when my real bike comes out to play! Can't wait.... just weeks away! Got a brilliant book today as well - food for cyclist - gives you all the food needed for fuel without the pounds - mind you I have used over 2500 calories the last few days with the amount of training - using my brilliant app on my phone to help! Happy cycling!

20/02/11 - Not much to write about this week - training going well, pleased with the progress I am making, can really see a difference in my fitness now, had a rest day today ready for a very intense week ahead.  We all have good days and bad days when it comes to training, but if you have a bad day don't let it get you down, it depends on the food you eat, the drinks you drink, how mentally prepared you are to training that day, all these things have an impact.

14/03/11 - Sorry been a few weeks, still training, not as much as I want too as sometimes work takes over..... Well yesterday was the beginning of the year for me, got to take my road bike out for the first time - a little hard, but sort of expected that.. Just took it around a short circuit wanted to test everything worked its been stuck inside for a few months.  All ok, has a few issues with the gearing but might just need a little TLC in parts.  Enjoyed actually getting out, going up the hills it was nice to stand up and make my legs work. So let the fun will begin...........

20/03/11 - Not been a great week for training due to work, however got to go out today on my bike for a longer ride - all good.  Really enjoyed it, speed, hills and of course my bike.  Well looking forward to the week ahead when I get my new Tri-Cross bike - then the training will really start. I will however go out on my road bike, as it deserves it. #

01/04/11 - Got my new bike this week - my tri-cross - a really lovely bike - needs a little TLC.  But looking forward to getting out and about with it. I can't wait to really start riding - only a week to go then I have two weeks to start putting some miles in.  I know its going to be hard but once you start be well worth it.

10/04/11 - Well new bike was a little sick, but got repaired and was out for a ride yesterday - a little different to my Trek Madone but either way a nice bike, can throw it around a little more, good for hills and robust. Overall pleased, will take a little bit to get used too.  Also going to set my road bike up on its stand so that I can train every night, as sometimes my work gets in the way.

24/04/11 - Well got my new bike back up and running, took the Trek out a few times - 10miles nothing more - just when I can.  However took the tri-cross out for a 30mile bike ride today, a little different to my road bike however good! Fairly flat route, some rolling hills but nothing too bad, looking at distance really.  Had a lovely time, good weather. This is just the beginning, will need to get out much more now. :)

30/04/11 - Well been to the gym and on my bike a few times this week, however back to work so have to set up a new routine to ensure I get all the training in as well. Bike ride was short today, however very windy.  Did think should I with the wind, however I cannot say that when I am out next year, so I decided too, went backwards I think, however a good challenge, my legs felt like I had been on a long ride! Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow so lets hope.

30/05/11 - Its been a while since I have updated this, but I haven't really stopped training but work has had an impact.  However been out on my bike for a few good rides, got to work on my mental ability  - I think I have the fitness that can be worked on, but my mental ability to just do it needs some work.  I am very excited about it, what I will see, how I feel! Its going to be amazing! A little nervous but hey, thats the adventure.  Got a few months of planning ahead, will have to start putting weight on my bike soon so I can start to get used to it.  The bike itself is very different to my Trek, but its good to be able to throw this one around a bit, but its heavier.  The gearing is slightly different to the trek but all the same its good.  Well until the next log, keep training..................

20/07/11 - Sorry its been a long time, been so busy at work. Well still training, weekend bike rides, gym sessions daily.  Well its just about to get really intense with the summer break upon us.  Aim to ride every morning and evening, gym sessions in between - six weeks of training ahead.  Changed my diet - Eating no more than 1000 calories in the attempt to shift a stone in the next four weeks. Working alright, ready break start, rice lunch and balanced low cal dinner. Drinking just juice and water now.  On my fifth day of giving up my one love 'Tea'.  Its not been easy but getting better - been a year since I have drunk a coffee as well. All in all a busy few months but let the fun begin!

04/08/11 - Well training has really picked up the pace now - doing something twice a day be it the gym, swim, ride and run.  A little tiring to begin with, but the results are clearly showing. Second full week in and I am really enjoying the challenge.  Diet going well, no tea in two weeks - thats not so bad once the first week is over.

24/01/12 - Wow has it been really this long since I have written to this blog? Can't believe that - how time flies - well still training, picking up the pace now with only months away to the big adventure - well swimming in the morning, training in the evening - longer bike rides at weekend. On a very tight diet now, want to lose at least 13lbs to begin with - set myself 8 weeks.
1) Using Maxi Muscle diet shake - we will see if it works -1 for breakfast, 1 for lunch or after exercise. Chicken and veg for tea! Plenty of water and green tea!

Will let you know the outcome after week 1 which is next Monday!

19/02/12

Well a month on, not sure where the time is going to be honest, working hard in the gym at the moment due to the cold weather, can't afford to get a cold or anything now, evening are starting to turn so hopefully the warm weather will follow. Training is mainly cycling now, with some weights on my legs to build power. Maxi Muscle is going well, takes a little getting used too.
